UC Indoor Practice Facility

Game-Changer: A state-of-the-art performance facility designed to take university football to the next level.

The Sheakley Indoor Practice Facility and Athletics Performance Center is a striking, ultra-modern, 210,000-square-foot addition to the University of Cincinnati’s athletic campus. Designed to elevate football training, performance and recovery, the eye-catching facility includes a full indoor football field, player lounges, training spaces and specialized recovery amenities.

Motz Engineering partnered with a local engineering firm to provide plumbing and fire protection plans and specifications for the newly constructed facility. The project was delivered utilizing the Construction Manager at Risk (CMR) method.

Due to the size, construction budget, and complexity of the project, Motz participated in multiple coordination sessions with the Architect, Lead Engineer, and CMR. Coordination sessions utilized printed & PDF plans and 3D modeling software Navisworks. In particular, Motz Engineering consulted heavily on manufacturers, specifications, and means & methods for the hydrotherapy pools to ensure future maintenance is easy.

The University of Cincinnati is an urban college campus that expertly utilizes every available square inch of space. The facility’s new underground utilities, such as domestic water, storm, and sanitary, had to intercept existing mains below the existing pavilion. Motz worked closely with the Civil Engineer, Surveyor, and CMR to model, quantify, and deliver extension options.

University owners need cost-effective, long-term solutions for their sports facilities. They need durable spaces that enable their next football team to train for the national championship. They want spaces that work as hard as the players. Because the 3D model is often used in promotional media, University owners want a neat & organized model that meets campus standards.
